NY Village Gets Water Customers' Attention
The treasurer of the suburban community of Croton-on-Hudson,NY, on, Abe Zambrano found a clever solution to collect water bills from some 34 homes which had not had actual readings in two or more years. What he did was to send phoney invoices for $1,000 to each of the homes, which did get their attention.
"We have sent notices, we have sent letters," Zambrano said. "None of these accounts responded. We tried to be very flexible, we offered weekend appointments, but nothing." They did not make telephone calls because "It's hard to reach these people during the day," said village Manager Richard Herbek.
So far, Zambrano went on to say, "Most people are calling in, saying, 'What's this?' and when we tell them there's no problem, they feel it's a good way to get their attention. They're saying, 'Well, you certainly got me,"'as reported by wcbstv.com and published by topix.net
